Director Choeur de l'Opéra National de Bordeaux
Salvatore Caputo has been Chorus Master of the Opéra National de Bordeaux since 2014, Artistic Director of the Bordeaux Eufonia festival since 2015 and Guest Chorus Master of the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing since 2017. He has also held the same position in a number of prestigious venues: Colón Theatre in Buenos Aires (2004-2009), San Carlo Theatre in Naples (2009-2014) and the Municipal Theatre of Santiago in Chile (2014). During his career he has performed in some of the most famous theatres in the world (San Francisco Opera House, Municipal Theatre of Florence, Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, Moscow Academic Musical Theatre, Hong-Kong Opera House, Toronto Opera House, New National Theatre in Tokyo, Philharmonie de Paris…) as well as at festivals and has worked with the greatest conductors: Abbado, Altinoglu, Benini, Bonynge, Daniel, Luisotti, Mehta, Minkowski, Muti, Oren, Ozawa, Pretre, Santi, Tate... Salvatore Caputo has conducted the chorus of some 90 works and organised over 150 symphonic programmes.
At the Opéra National de Bordeaux, he prepares the chorus for operas and concerts and conducts a series of concerts and lyrical discovery programmes for children and families in Aquitaine.
Always a keen teacher, Salvatore Caputo previously taught lyrical repertoire at the Colón Theatre Institute in Buenos Aires and teaches masterclasses in Italy and France to students from all over Europe. He is a member of the Argentinian charity Música Para El Alma which organises concerts in hospitals. Taking the initiative to extend this work in Chile, Italy and then France, he strives to ensure that part of the programme of the Chorus of the Opéra National de Bordeaux is dedicated to charity events. Salvatore Caputo was named Conductor of the Best Chorus in Argentina in 2005 and was awarded the Silver Star of Merit in France in 2016.
